The three numbers that decide everything

$75 — the minimum per visit. Nothing costs less than this, because the truck and the crew still have to drive to Greenfield and back.

Per-item flat prices — every item has a published number. A sofa is $126. A queen mattress is $103. A refrigerator is $164.

The truck-fill ladder — 1/4 truck $241, 3/8 $338, 1/2 $431, 5/8 $513, 3/4 $587, 7/8 $661, full truck $732.

You pay whichever of the last two is lower for your particular load. The online quote runs both comparisons and shows you the cheaper number before you book. That is the entire pricing model.

The truck ladder, and what each fraction actually holds

LoadFlat priceRoughly what fits
1/4 truck$241A studio's worth, or one room lightly furnished
3/8 truck$338A bedroom set plus a few boxes
1/2 truck$431A single garage, or a small one-bedroom
5/8 truck$513A furnished one-bedroom flat
3/4 truck$587A two-car detached garage, or a large apartment
7/8 truck$661A full basement
Full truck$732A whole small house, or one layer of a large one

A whole long-tenure Milwaukee home — a bungalow with an attic half-story, a full basement and a detached alley garage — is commonly two full trucks: $732 + $732 = $1,464.

Where the crossover falls

This is the part worth understanding, because it is where the money is.

Rule of thumb: four or fewer substantial items, itemize. More than that, check volume.

A short list stays cheaper itemized. A sofa and a mattress set is $126 + $143 = $269, against a quarter truck at $241 — so close that the quarter truck edges it, but at two items you are already at the boundary.

A longer list tips hard. Five living-room pieces — sofa $126, loveseat $119, coffee table $67, end table $52, bookshelf $72 — is $126 + $119 + $67 + $52 + $72 = $436. A three-eighths truck is $338, saving $436 − $338 = $98.

A garage tips much harder. Mower $65, charcoal grill $59, patio table $89, four patio chairs at $30 each ($120), two bicycles at $37 each ($74), a chest freezer $146 and a large junk pile $208 is $65 + $59 + $89 + $120 + $74 + $146 + $208 = $761. A three-quarter truck is $587, saving $761 − $587 = $174.

The practical instruction: put the whole list into the quote in one go. Booking items individually is how people end up on the wrong side of this line.

What Milwaukee adds to the bill: nothing

Worth stating explicitly, because in this city these would apply to almost every job.

  • No stair charge. Upper units of two-flats, Polish flat stoops, East Side third-floor walk-ups, bungalow attic half-storys, steep basement stairs with a low header.
  • No long-carry charge. Narrow lots mean a detached garage sits the length of the yard from the alley where the truck parks.
  • No no-driveway charge. Most older city blocks park on the street.
  • No disposal fee. Hauling and disposal are inside the flat price, not billed afterwards.
  • No same-day surcharge and no winter surcharge. November to April is normal operating season here.
  • No difference between the city and the suburbs. A sofa is $126 in Riverwest, in Wauwatosa, in Oak Creek and in Menomonee Falls.

How to not pay the minimum for nothing

The $75 floor catches people out on small jobs. A countertop microwave is $30. A bag of clothes is $35. A small area rug is $33. Book any one of those alone and you pay $75.

Book all three and it is $30 + $35 + $33 = $98 — above the floor, three times as much removed, for $23 more.

So before you book anything small, walk the basement and the alley garage. You are paying for the trip either way, and in a Milwaukee house there is always something down there.

The same logic applies to timing: two separate visits mean two minimums and two trips. If the bedroom and the basement are both going eventually, do them on the same day.

What the price does not depend on

People frequently expect these to matter. They do not.

  • Weight. A cast iron radiator at $123 and a chest freezer at $146 are priced as items, not weighed.
  • Which floor it is on.
  • Whether it is wet, moldy or broken. Damp basement furniture is ordinary work in this city and carries no surcharge.
  • How far the truck has to park.
  • The weather.
  • Whether you are home. If access is arranged we can clear and send photos.

Getting a real number

Open the online quote, add everything that is going, and the total appears on screen with both pricing routes compared. Pick a slot. That number is what you pay — there is no on-site estimate and no re-quote on your terrace.

For anything at whole-house scale, send photos of the basement, the attic and the garage first. Those three spaces are what decide the truck count in a Milwaukee house, and they are the three people forget to include.

Frequently asked questions

How much does junk removal cost in Milwaukee?

The minimum is $75 per visit. Single items are flat — $126 a sofa, $103 a queen mattress, $164 a refrigerator. Larger jobs price by volume from $241 for a quarter truck up to $732 for a full truck.

Should I pay per item or by truck volume?

Whichever is lower, and the quote works it out for you. Roughly: four or fewer substantial items favors itemizing, and anything bigger favors volume. Five living-room pieces at $126 + $119 + $67 + $52 + $72 = $436 against a three-eighths truck at $338 is a $98 saving.

Are there extra charges for stairs or a long carry?

No. No stair fee, no walk-up fee, no long-carry fee, no same-day or winter surcharge, and no separate disposal bill. In a city of two-flats and alley garages those charges would apply to nearly everyone, which is exactly why we do not have them.

Is it more expensive in the suburbs?

No. The published prices are the same across the metro — Wauwatosa, West Allis, Greenfield, Shorewood, Oak Creek, Brookfield, Menomonee Falls and the rest.

What does a whole house cost?

A long-tenure Milwaukee home with an attic, a full basement and a detached garage is commonly two full trucks: $732 + $732 = $1,464, plus flat prices for heavy pieces like an upright piano at $290.

Does the price change once you see the job?

No. The flat price you booked is the price you pay. If you add items on the day they are charged at their published prices and you approve the new total before anything moves.
