What a garage cleanout costs in Milwaukee

The short answer

Garage cleanouts are almost always priced by volume, because a garage is not a list — it is a pile with shelving.

Minimum per visit is $75. If the garage really is only three or four items, itemize instead — the online quote checks both and shows you the cheaper one.

Two very different Milwaukee garages

The metro splits cleanly, and which side you are on changes the job more than the price.

The city detached garage off the alley. Bay View, Riverwest, Lincoln Village, Washington Heights, Sherman Park, and most of West Allis and Wauwatosa. Single or double, sat at the back of a narrow lot, opening onto the alley rather than a driveway. Frequently no electricity, often a dirt or cracked-slab floor, usually a loft or rafter storage above where the storm windows and the Christmas decorations live. Access is from the alley, and the walk from the house to the garage is the length of the yard.

The attached suburban garage. Greenfield, Oak Creek, Franklin, New Berlin, Brookfield, Menomonee Falls, Mequon. Wider, with a proper driveway, a service door into the house, and usually a finished floor. Easier to clear, and typically fuller — because there is more of it and it has been easier to keep filling.

Both are flat-priced the same way. There is no long-carry charge for walking the length of a yard to an alley, which is just as well, because in this city it would apply constantly.

Why Milwaukee garages fill up

There is a specific mechanism here and it is seasonal.

From November through April, the garage stops being storage and becomes infrastructure. The snowblower comes to the front. Bags of salt and sand stack by the door. Shovels, roof rakes, sleds, the winter tires, the extension cord for the block heater. Everything that was in the middle of the floor in October gets shoved to the walls to make room — and it never comes back out.

Then in spring the patio furniture, the grill and the bikes come out of the corner where they were buried, the summer stuff goes in, and the cycle repeats. Do that for fifteen years and the walls have grown inward by four feet on every side. This is why so many people book a garage cleanout in the first warm week of spring or the last dry week of October — those are our two busiest garage windows, and the second one is the smarter booking, because a cleared garage in October is a garage your car fits in all winter.

Itemized: $65 + $59 + $89 + $120 + $74 + $146 + $208 = $761.

That volume is realistically a three-quarter truck at $587. So volume pricing wins this one by $761 − $587 = $174. For anything garage-sized, check the truck-fill route first — it is usually the better number, which is exactly why we show you both instead of just the one.

Things we cannot take, and what to do with them

Garages are where the awkward materials end up. We will take almost everything, but a few categories are excluded everywhere and it is better to know now than on the day:

• Paint, stain, solvents and old thinner. Every Milwaukee garage has a shelf of half-used tins going back thirty years. These go through household hazardous waste channels — check your county's current program for drop-off arrangements.
• Motor oil, antifreeze and fuel. Same route. Drain the mower and the snowblower before we come.
• Propane tanks. The grill itself is fine at $71; the tank has to go back to an exchange point.
• Car batteries and tires. Handled under their own rules.
• Ammunition. Comes up more than you would expect in this state. Not us — contact your local police non-emergency line for the correct procedure.

Set those aside in one corner before we arrive and we will clear everything around them.

Booking and access

Tell us two things at booking: that the garage opens onto an alley, and whether the alley is passable. In winter that second one is not a formality — residential alleys are cleared after the streets and after a heavy snow they can be genuinely impassable to a truck for a day or two. We will work with what the weather gives us and the price does not change either way.

You do not need to be home. If the garage is accessible and the instructions are clear, we can clear it and send photos. And you do not need to pre-move anything to the alley — carrying it out is what the flat price covers.
